On the way with Scenic

A practical report from the street

Meeting up with friends is quick and easy with Yomoko. Planning a truly great route for your next adventure, however, isn’t. That’s where things often become complicated. You invest time in planning, only to realize mid-ride that a road is closed, the weather turns, or the group suddenly wants to head in a different direction.
This balance between planning and flexibility was exactly what I dealt with during my 2025 Scandinavia tour. Especially when riding the TET, the Trans European Trail, you quickly realize that you need a solution that allows you to adjust routes on the go without hassle.
That’s why I started using Scenic. I wanted to modify routes quickly, replan when necessary, or completely change direction without having to start from scratch every time.
In addition, after years of being available exclusively on iOS, Scenic has now launched on Android as well. The Android version is currently in beta and free to use.
But the real question is simple:
Does Scenic actually make motorcycle route planning better?
Curvy Route Generation with Real Fine-Tuning
There are plenty of navigation apps. Very few create truly good motorcycle routes.
Scenic’s curvy route generation works impressively well. Instead of sending you onto endless highway stretches or straight connector roads, the app actively searches for roads that add flow and character to your ride.
What makes Scenic particularly interesting is not just the curve generation itself, but the level of control you have over it.
You can fine-tune your route preferences, from standard to winding. Particularly exciting, currently still in beta and available in the USA, is the ‘Beauty Routing’ mode, which is designed to suggest routes with particularly attractive scenery.
On longer trips or when exploring unfamiliar regions, this can become extremely valuable.
Round Trips in Just a Few Clicks. Perfect for Spontaneous Rides
There is something satisfying about round trips. You start from home and return home without complicated logistics. That is exactly what you need for a spontaneous after-work ride or a relaxed Sunday trip with friends.
In Scenic, this works very intuitively. You select your preferred direction, enter the desired distance, and a complete round trip is generated for you.
Combined with Yomoko’s Let’s Ride mode, it creates a perfect setup if you are looking for spontaneous riding partners.
Ideal for Motorcycle Travelers
As mentioned earlier, Scenic was a real game changer for me in Norway and Sweden.
Offline maps, GPX file support, and flexible rerouting are combined in one app. When comparing different TET sections or switching routes spontaneously, it quickly becomes frustrating if maps constantly need to reload.
GPX files load quickly and reliably in Scenic. You can navigate purely via GPS, even without mobile reception. In regions with weak coverage, and there are plenty in Sweden and Norway, that is extremely valuable.
If you are looking for an all-in-one solution that combines offline maps, GPX import, Apple CarPlay, and soon Android Auto support, Scenic offers a very well-rounded package.
You can download global offline maps directly within the app. Anyone who travels frequently or rides in remote areas should consider it for that reason alone.
Details That Make a Difference in Everyday Use
One feature that may initially sound like a gimmick but proves useful in practice is the fully customizable color scheme.
This goes beyond a simple light or dark mode. You can individually configure the interface and map colors.
On long rides, especially with changing sunlight conditions, contrast and readability are crucial. A well-adjusted display makes more of a difference than you might expect.
It is one of those features you do not realize you need until you have used it.
The user interface is also clearly designed with motorcyclists in mind. Large, easy-to-reach controls make operation with gloves much easier. That detail genuinely matters in real-world riding.
Not Just for Motorcycles
Another aspect I find interesting is that Scenic is not limited to classic motorcycle touring.
I also travel frequently with a camper van, which is larger, heavier, and more restricted in route choice. In that case, you would prefer less curvy and more manageable roads.
With a scooter or bicycle, your requirements are different again compared to a high-performance bike.
Scenic offers different routing options for various use cases. If you have multiple hobbies and do not want to use a separate app for each vehicle, this provides a flexible solution.
A Decade on iOS. Now Also on Android
For years, Scenic was something of a secret weapon for iPhone riders. Android users simply did not have access.
That has now changed.
After more than ten years of iOS exclusivity, Scenic is launching on Android. For many in the motorcycle community, that is the real headline.
It makes the app accessible to a much broader audience, regardless of which operating system you use.
Is Scenic Worth It?
If you are just looking for basic navigation, Google Maps will likely get you where you need to go.
However, if you deliberately plan motorcycle routes, prefer curvy roads, or want an all-in-one travel solution that includes offline maps, GPX import, and flexible fine-tuning, Scenic is definitely worth recommending.
If you would like to try Scenic, a four-week trial access may be available via the Yomoko app, depending on current availability. Premium users may additionally receive 30 percent off selected monthly subscriptions as part of a limited promotion. Availability, scope, and terms may vary or be changed at any time.
